Hi! Thanks for the welcome  :)
I've only read the title message to 2nd Thessalonians thus far, but found it very good and agreed with most of what you said...perhaps all.
One question I did want to ask about it is your take on the "rebuilt" temple. I know many people take it to mean that the Jews will in time rebuild their temple, but what do you think about the idea of the Church being the temple? Most times in the NT where the word 'Temple' is used is usually in conjunction with the Church, is it not? Would it not be possible that the abomination will therefore take place within the Church? That someone will come into our midst with lies and decptions and fool and turn away the 'nominal' Christians?

I also wanted to commend you on one particular insight. You mention that those with certain issues in life are more 'susceptible' to being duped into certain end times beliefs. And I think you are right, because it's something I've experienced. I have a chronic illness that makes life a bit of a slog and to be honest, I fix my gaze on the hope of his return, knowing that when he does all pain and tears and sickness will be wiped away. The temptation to believe in the notion of the Rapture can be intense. But as nice as the idea is, there's no point being swept away in something you can't see in scripture, is there? I think we need calls to love God's truth more than we love the idea of escaping our problems.

Anyway, I look forward to reading on and seeing what you think the observable timeline is.

Well, this is a spiritualized application of the prophecy, which I have no problem with so long as it doesn't completely replace the literal one, which has precedence. But about this spiritual application, yes, certainly that is correct. Revelations 18:2 is about what will become of the denominational church in the end-times, so your application applies.

So sorry to hear that, Naomi. Maybe the Lord had me write this words partly for you, because they were not a part of the original outline but something I just added in at the spur of the moment the other day. And yeah, it can be very tempting. I've had ups and downs in my life too, and there were times when I could have used the rapture, like yesterday, LoL.

Keep praying and believing God for healing. And keep growing in the word. As the scriptures say, "Your word is life to my bones, and health to all my flesh."  :)

Welcome again, and if you have any more questions just ask.  :D

Hi! Quick question: how is it spiritualizing if we see an actual person come into the Church with deception? I suppose the word "Temple" is not being taken 'literally', but often Paul uses the word temple in non-literal ways in the NT, so isn't there an acceptable precident there?
Thanks!

Hey sister! Just seeing this or I might have responded sooner.

Well of course that would be a literal phenomenon. I was simply talking about the application of the verse. Certainly people corrupt the church, which is supposed to be the temple of God, all the time. What I was saying was that ultimately the references to the Antichrist entering the temple in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 are literally in reference to an actual man and an actual temple first and foremost. Only then are they to be interpreted spiritually, and only then if the reference is to Satan himself rather than the Antichrist, since the notion that the Antichrist himself would somehow corrupt the church is entirely foreign to scripture.

Huh...good point. I hadn't actually considered that, to be honest....that if we're looking for it to be Antichrist, then it's not likely he'd be among the very Church he is going to persecute. Sort of changes the angle of it a bit, doesn't it?

Yeah. Doesn't make much sense.

I was never introduced - or subjected, LoL - to Historicist interpretations of scripture when I came to Christ. I guess I just didn't force it, but left it up to God's timing as to when He would explain end-times prophecy to me. I had friends who got deep into it, but I didn't get the sense that they were all that accurate. But while I never was introduced to Historicism or Preterism all that much, I sure have read a lot of it lately. ChristianityBoard is overrun with those interpretations now, as well as several others.
